Thelma was a quiet and steadfast activist whose tireless campaigning made a great and lasting impact on everything she has been involved in. In 1991, Thelma was declared Manningham City Council's Citizen of the Year in recognition of her work and commitment. She was vocal in highlighting and supporting environmental issues. Thelma played an important part in her local community and helped to set up a community health centre in Doncaster and Templestowe. In the late 1980s, she was a member of the Victorian Women's Consultative Council and was involved with the campaign to save part of the Queen Victoria Hospital for Women. Thelma retired from paid work in 1983 and continued her union involvement by becoming a volunteer with the Union of Australian Women (UAW). She left in 1936 to start work at the Holeproof factory in Brunswick. Born in 1922 in Essendon, Thelma attended the local state school. His passing is a tremendous loss, but his memory will live on for many, many years. His integrity, wit, and hard-working but fun personality was an inspiration to many. Gary valued the simple things in life and spent as much time as he could playing with his grandchildren, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, camping, going to the beach, and bike-riding. He was deeply invested in his faith and leading his family towards Christ. Davids wife, Thelma, reminded him what the Bible says. Gary was a devoted father and grandfather, and the love he had for his family was palpable. David was concerned about the long-term commitment but wanted to somehow accommodate his pastors request. Surviving are his children, Tyler and Caitlin Steward, Savannah and Cody Yount, Corinne Steward and Steven Moss his grandchildren, Lola Yount, Aubree Moss, Coco Yount, Cash Yount, Henry Steward, and soon to be born grandson, Thomas Steward his sister, Viki LaCross, step-mother, Sandy Steward, and niece and nephew, Faith and Caleb Simonye. and Jeanette Englehart-Duvernois, his sister, Sharri Steward, brother, Scott Steward, and grandparents, Howard and Thelma Steward. He was preceded in death by his parents Gary Steward Sr.
